Number 6 | The Anthology’s Most Ridiculous Moments of 2011

There’s been a lot of ridiculosity on The Anthology’s ten most ridiculous moments of 2011. First, there was an invisible man, then there was a Sasquatch, then MC Hammer, and then the world’s most beautiful picnic spot. Which brings us to…

6. A whole new meaning to “Shake your pompom.” Erika Renfrew has scouted many fashion shows and events for The Anthology. But of them all, this outfit from the Art Institute Grad Fashion Show has to be the most ridiculously, unexpectedly sexy. Honestly. A wired pompom skirt? Who’d a thunk?

P.S. The Anthology on Google+. Think about it.

Number 7 | The Anthology’s Most Ridiculous Moments of 2011

There’s been a lot of high fashion on The Anthology’s ten most ridiculous moments of 2011 so far (check out the invisible, the Sasquatch-inspired and the MC Hammer-esque) which brings us to something that’s ridiculous not because of what I’m wearing (though for the record it’s Forma Athletic Gear) but because it’s…

7. The most ridiculous picnic spot ever. I can’t really describe how stunningly beautiful (and moderately terrifying) the British Columbia’s Bugaboo Mountains are. But I can tell you that the most ridiculously amazing experience I had this year was heli-hiking from a luxury lodge so remote it didn’t get cell service, but did have its own Swiss pastry chef. Alpine picnics beat sea-level picnics any day. And they’re especially thrilling when you’re keeping your eye out for grizzly bears. May I suggest you add it to your bucket list? Thanks again, Canadian Mountain Holidays!

Merry Merry!

May your day be filled with pajamas and presents, quality time by the fire, and way too much turkey.

Number 8 | The Anthology’s Most Ridiculous Moments of 2011

So far there have been two fur-clad gentlemen on The Anthology’s ten most ridiculous moments of 2011 (check out the invisible and not-so-invisible). Which means we have now arrived at…

8. The MC Hammer dance in some MC Hammer pants. I love a good “before and after” and you love a good “before and after”, but let’s face it, the “before” part is often the most ridiculous. Case in point: these printed palazzo pants, a gift challenge from my friend Sonja. She didn’t quite believe I could actually turn those hypnotic slacks into something wearable, but with a little tailoring magic they were transformed. Into what, you ask? These.

P.S. Do the hammer dance with The Anthology on Twitter.

Number 9 | The Anthology’s Most Ridiculous Moments of 2011

At The Anthology I eschew the usual “best and worst” of the year in favour of the most ridiculous. We kicked off The Anthology’s ten most ridiculous moments of 2011 with an invisible man in a fur coat so that brings us to…

9. A not-so-invisible man in a fur jumpsuit. When photographer Braden Paul covered Sasquatch Festival for The Anthology this summer, he took some downright spectacular photos (one of which was runner-up in NME’s music photography awards). He also captured some of the ridiculous steeze of festival goers. In terms of fashion etiquette, this fur-clad gentleman’s bang-on, though. It’s only polite to show up to Sasquatch in Sasquatch after all.

Besides, have you ever seen a friendlier-looking Sasquatch? Trick question! I’ll bet you’ve never seen a Sasquatch before at all.

P.S. Number 9 on last year’s list was remarkably stylish too.

Number 10 | The Anthology’s Most Ridiculous Moments of 2011

The countdown is on, my friends! New Year’s Eve is coming so soon I can already taste the champagne. Which means it’s time for one of my favourite traditions on The Anthology: the top ten most ridiculous moments of the year. We’ll recount them over the next ten days, starting with…

10. That time I made eyes at an invisible man wearing a fur coat. It’s the epitome of great television, really. I took TV host Melanie Pineda and her camera crew vintage shopping, I twirled around 14,286 times in the span of three minutes and somewhere in the midst of it all I shared a moment with a well-dressed invisible gentleman. Take a look.

Thanks again, Jerome Insorio, for grabbing that still frame!

P.S. What earned the 10th spot on The Anthology’s list last year? This.

Style | The Wish List Collabo

A little while ago I asked you guys what you were wishing for and boy did you send in some great ideas. None of you said you were wishing for world peace, mind you, but your picks are so fun and unexpected I won’t hold that against you…

Allie
1. A lovely little heart ring by Verameat (also available at Vincent Park in Vancouver).
2. Shawl from Marche St. George (thanks to your Vitamin Daily post!).
3. Dolce Vita Kimora Sweater (also available at Vincent Park in Vancouver).

Keltie
4. I would add this little lovely to my wishlist!

Kat
5. I’ve been coveting this LL Bean Town and Field Leather Tote for a few Christmases now.  Santa doesn’t seem to be taking the hint.  LL Bean Totes are always on my list, in any form.
6. I’m a big fan of all things moose (it’s a very very long and complicated story that ends in pyjamas)… so when I found this, I instantly dropped some pretty major hints.  Plus it’s under $20!
7. I’m also a Moleskine devotee and have always wanted one of their “Passions” lines of notebooks.

Melissa
8.
While my wish list is full of all things shiny and sparkly (think gold watch and sequin pumps), at the top of my list is something I never thought I’d see… a practical item. The Milly Luggage Lock Camille Coat is stunning. A way to keep warm while looking stylish this winter? Sign me up!

Judy
9. My hubby and I are on a tight budget this year. This way, he can pick and choose items he wants to get me and they won’t break the bank!

Steph
10. Am I the only one completely obsessed with the fashion on Once Upon a Time? Not only are the princess gowns fairytale-worthy, the ‘real-life’ characters’ have some fantastic outfits, too. Main character Emma has a penchant for leather jackets, especially those from ocean drive leather, located in Vancouver. Love Emma’s signature red jacket, but I’ve my eye on the gorgeous camel one.

Kumi
11.  Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling: A funny girl who can write? Big time girl crush alert.
12. Michael Kors Quinn Clutch in Kiwi: I love the clean, modern lines of this clutch. The contrast of the soft vachetta leather goes well against the gold clasp, and the fresh color makes this easily wearable year-round.
13.  Small crystal encrusted oval cup pendant necklace by Alexis Bittar: This one is my personal favorite – beautifully crafted and easily transferable from day to night.

Larissa
14. I’m hoping for an iPad because it’s a fun toy and my computer is breaking my back from carrying it around too much.

Michelle
15. A matte bangle from The Twisted Series by hk +np studio.
16. ANY painting from the lovely and talented Andrea Armstrong.

Bella
17. I have been wanting to complete my bedroom for sometime now and I feel these gorgeous nightstands would do the trick!

P.S. There are plenty more wishes where these came from. Take a look at wish lists by Boston-based food blogger Camille Barichello, stylish mommy blogger Anna Cohen and makeup artist Emmy Beaton.

Home | Kermodi Ornament

I have long been a fan of Kermodi Living Art (don’t you think this would make the perfect office plant?).

So I fell hard for Kermodi’s understated, almost terrarium-esque ornaments at Vancouver Special. One of them is now nestled among the mason jars (used as tea light candle holders) and cake plates (used as candle stands) on the antique rolltop desk in my living room.

It’s all part of my new grown-up holiday decor initiative. Well, that, and my inflatable Snoopy Claus lawn ornament wouldn’t fit.

Playlist | We Are the City and Treelines at the Rio

It was one of the trickier shows Braden Paul has shot — there was no photo pit and the place was packed.

But he captured some up close and personal photos of We Are the City at the Rio last weekend.

Their indie rock sound is pretty, pretty, pretty so it’s no wonder the trio from Kelowna, BC won last year’s Peak Performance Project (and with it, a not-too-shabby prize of $150,000).

Listen to the atmospheric, sweetly sung “Mourning Song” and the piano-riffic “Get Happy” and you might just fall in love.

The show was opened by folksy Treelines.

Who sing about the snow and naming their children after their favourite hockey players.

So if the CBC Radio 3 t-shirt didn’t give it away — yes, they are Canadian.

Beauty | Deborah Lippmann Holiday

I spend my days typing away on my keyboard so I love anything that makes my nails more fun to look at. Like this sparkalicious “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” nail colour from Deborah Lippmann, which is an explosion of glitter in one little bottle. I’m obsessed. Because its base is sheer, I applied it over top of some classic red polish and topped it off with some Deborah Lippmann “On a Clear Day” top coat. (“It’s sooooooooooo good,” said one of the BeautyMark girls when I stopped in to pick up a bottle. “And we’re snobs when it comes to top coats.” She was right — it’s the key to making a manicure last.)

The result? Festive fingers!
