In The Anthology’s Bookmark column we explore some of the most inspiring places on the wild, wild web.

Own_Your_Dreams_01

I’ve said it before (twice) and I’ll say it again: graphic designers have the best blogs. It’s all about the imagery after all — even though I make a living as a writer, I get that — and they have the imagery thing down pat.

London_011

Take The Fresh Exchange for example, a blog by the graphic design duo — husband and wife actually — behind the branding firm Wild Measure. It’s all about their creative process, travel, fashion, you know…all the good things in life.

The photos are beautiful, the write-ups heartfelt, the effect inspiring.

Style | Falling for fall/winter

Geox Jacket

Fall/winter seems to be everyone’s favourite time for fashion. Maybe because you have to wear so much of it in order to brave the elements? Or is it just the size of the fall fashion issues that get everyone drooling? Or the prospect of holiday parties and the dresses that go along with them?

Global Fall:Winter Trends Oct 15

All I know is fall/winter clothes get people really excited. Which made me (and my bump) especially excited to share three key trends for the season on Global TV featuring beautiful pieces from Geox (like the jacket pictured at the top), Club Monaco, Plenty, BCBGMAXAZRIA (like the faux suede top I’m holding above), Bench., and Ecco.

Watch the full clip here.

Celebrate | Cheers to All Hallow’s Eve

I can’t fit my go-to costume this year, but I can sip some spooktacularly gruesome-looking mocktails. Like these two-ingredient masterpieces: just 7-Up and grenadine (plus a baby medicine dispenser or two). You could add a little liquor to adultify them a little, I’m sure.

You’ll find a million more Halloween party ideas — like witch hat toss and pin the googly eyes on the monster — that I shared on CTV Morning Live here.

Home | Parisian-sized Glamour in a Paris-sized Apartment

cb318040b04d

There’s been some talk around our place of redoing our home. A soon-to-arrive baby seems to do that to people. So I’ve been spending a lot of time researching architects and designers, and studying their minimalist portfolios.

Then I stumbled, yet again, on this kitchen designed by Jean-Louis Deniot (photo from Elle Decor, in case the watermark didn’t give that away). I don’t remember where I first found it (Pinterest probably), but I love everything about it. It has such high-impact glamour in such a tiny space, and makes me think minimalism is overrated — over-the-top is where it’s at.

Wear/Where | Dark Florals

Floral kimono and wallpaper

Florals? For fall? Groundbreaking. (No, really.) When they’re deep and dark and as moody as these are, they’re awesome in autumn.

Wear: A flowy kimono with your favourite mom jeans (as seen here).

Where: A bit of wow for your walls by Ellie Cashman.

Pinstagram | Pink, Emerald and Gold

The Anthology’s Pinstagram column marries the dream (Pinterest) and the reality (Kelsey Dundon’s Instagram photos of places and faces in and around Vancouver).

Carousel and gold

Gilded age. The carousel at Seattle’s Woodland Zoo + shiny mid-century modern decor.

Pacific Northwest

Cool water. The fountain at Seattle City Center during an early fall day + the cool waters of what looks like the Pacific Northwest.

Emerald Green

Green machine. I showcased an emerald green baby bump during a recent trend presentation on Global TV + a very friendly dinosaur room.

QE and London

Bright lights. The lobby of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre during a performance of Rigoletto + a powder puff of a restaurant in London.

Black and White

Black and white. Above and behind the scenes at a recent Wardrobe Rescue makeover I did on Global TV (thanks for the photo, Zoe!) + an illustration that would make pretty cool wallpaper for a powder room.

Art & Design | Photography by Gray Malin

Buying art is hard. Not just because it’s often a serious investment, but also because it has to move you (and hopefully whoever you’re living with too).

Screen Shot 2015-09-25 at 10.47.51 AM

These Italian beach prints by Gray Malin move me. Like in a take-me-to-Italy way.

I love a rocky cliff-covered coast line. I’d take that over a five mile stretch of unbroken white sand any day.

And it sure makes for some beautiful shots, like these from Malin’s La Dolce Vita series.

Which is a series I’d happily invest in.

Art & Design | Californian #squadgoals

joy-emily-nursery

While everyone and their grandmother is obsessed with Taylor Swift’s squad these days, I set my #squadgoals on a posse of LA-based designers, bloggers, photographers and creative types: Emily Henderson, Joy Cho, Bri Emery and Max Wanger. Their aesthetics are different (their talents are too) but there’s some serious cross-pollination happening in their bright and colourful, sunshine-infused looks. Which makes for some fun collaborations.

Is it the Southern Californian weather? Is it the LA creative community? Are they friends in real life? I don’t know.

Bri Emery Dining Room

But I do know that when you follow any one of their Pinterest posts to their blog, chances are there’s some sort of shoutout to one and other. All the sunshine and smiles make me want to add colour — and a bit of gold — to everything.

Style | Cozy for fall

The+Sahara+Edited+2+Cream

I live for oversized scarves. The bigger, the cozier, the better, as far as I’m concerned.  The Sahara Travel Wrap by Vancouver’s own Bare Knitwear certainly fits that bill. Made of melange alpaca and adorned with hand-knit tassels, it’s the kind of thing I’d wear straight through until March and then on every plane ride I take for the rest of my life.

Pinstagram | You Mumu Move Me

The Anthology’s Pinstagram column marries the dream (Pinterest) and the reality (Kelsey Dundon’s Instagram photos of places and faces in and around Vancouver).

KD and baby mumu

With child. There’s no maternity wear more amazing than a vintage mumu (thanks, Katie, for the photo!) + an embroidered toddler dress that would make for quite the mommy ‘n me look.

Grub

Graphic imagery. Wild new wallpaper at Grub on Main + the work of Roos van Dijk.

Necklace workspace

Workspace. A necklace I’m using in a Global segment I’m working on + a desk I’d be quite happy to work at.

Posters

Posted notice. An ad for what might be the most fun dance class ever + a work of art by Jenny Prinn.

Wo gold

Golden child. My kid’s hair matches the decor + a shirt that would camouflage right in.
