Style | Wear Layers Well

Kelsey Dundon Global Television Spring Trends 2

They say if you don’t like the weather in Vancouver you should wait five minutes. I say you should layer up. For my latest Wear It Well segment on Global Television I brought in three of my favourite takes on layering for these not-quite-spring days. The first look? A super minimal take on a tissue-weight turtleneck and long, heavy cardigan from Oak + Fort.

Banana look

The second? A suiting vest layered with lace and cashmere from Banana Republic.

Spring Trends Global Television 4

The third? A floral dress worn as a tunic and warmed up with a linen jacket and blanket scarf from Plenty.

See? You don’t even have to wait a minute.

Thanks for having me, Global Television and Metropolis at Metrotown! And thanks, Hayley Hudson, for the photos!

Bookmark | French for Pineapple

In The Anthology’s Bookmark column we explore some of the most inspiring places on the wild, wild web.

DiningRoomBenchSeats

Often I have no idea how I first stumbled across a site. I’ll get lost in an internet vortex and end up somewhere so inspiring that I get drawn in even further and by the time I drag myself away from my screen I have no idea how I ended up there in the first place.

ItStoolsFrontRoom

But with the design blog French for Pineapple, I know exactly what drew me to it: the above photo. It landed in my Pinterest feed and I fell in love with it right away. The print is striking, the stools are amazing and the blue walls make me want to paint my living room.

LeakMaisieCousins

Edited by print and textile designer Bianca Hall, French for Pineapple is filled with art recommendations, photos of her constantly reinvented North London home and DIYs like the fluffy stools I fell in love with in the first place (CB2 has something similar if you’re not super handy with a staple gun).

In other words, it’s filled with some serious inspiration. So bookmark French for Pineapple already and bookmark The Anthology while you’re at it.

Read | Design in Canada

outdoor

I have a closet full of vintage clothes and the “Made in Canada” labels on many of them speak to the country’s rich garment history. But I didn’t know much about Canada’s history of design design because we don’t celebrate it much (not very Canadian to do so, I suppose).

Design in Canada table chairs

That changed when a friend loaned me his copy of Design in Canada, which is filled with iconic pieces (and the odd hilariously disco spread) from the north.

Lights

Many of them look timeless, some of them look so on-trend you’d expect to see them in modern decor stores, and none of them look anything like I expected vintage Canadian design would.

Pinstagram | Bring your kid to work day

The Anthology’s Pinstagram column marries the dream (Pinterest) and the reality (Kelsey Dundon’s Instagram photos of places and faces in and around Vancouver).

KD and office

Workspace. I brought my baby with me to do a pull for a segment, which technically makes that a bring-your-kid-to-work day + a home office I’d become a Kardashian for.

Necklace and Alexa

Colours of the year. A necklace (from LOFT) in serenity and rose quartz + Alexa Chung in similar Pantone-approved tones.

Hearts

I heart it. Valentine’s Day wins my heart every time + a print just dripping with pink.

Kids clothes

Like a hurricane. My toddler likes to dress herself + a kid’s wardrobe that’s neater than mine could ever be.

bed

Reading in bed. This is what she got all dressed up for + an adorable earthy kid’s room.

Giveaway | Win Double Passes to Zoolander 2!

No supermodel — not even Cara Delevingne — has taken the style world like Derek Zoolander. Twice.

Want to be there when this force of fashion debuts in Vancouver? Paramount Pictures and The Anthology are giving away double passes to the advance screening of Zoolander 2 on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 7:30pm at SilverCity Metropolis in Burnaby.

CONTEST CLOSED: Have fun, Natalie!

Make | Benchic’s DIY Chocolate

Benchic_2

I have a friend who makes the best chocolate. Like, you’d have no idea it wasn’t from some crazy chocolatier. (She actually started up her own company but it was too much to deal with in addition to her day job and if it were up to me she’d start it up again. Ahem…Megan!)

Benchic_6

But no matter. Because even if you’re not gifted in the chocolates department, you can gift in the chocolates department (see what I did there?).

Benchic

LA’s Benchic Chocolate just launched chocolate-making kits complete with a reusable mould, organic Peruvian cocoa butter, wild California Honey (from near Long Beach), organic Peruvian Lucuma Powder, and the like. They’re not cheap — $79 USD before shipping — but you can’t put a price on chocolate-flavoured fun.

Style | Wear It Well

Global 9

Knitwear is having a moment. And I whole-heartedly endorse that, especially the luxe head-to-toe knitwear worn by the likes of Gigi Hadid.

Global5

So to kick off Wear It Well, a new segment I’m doing with Global Television and Metropolis at Metrotown, I celebrated all things knit.

Global10

What if you’re petite? What if you’re full-figured? What’s on trend? Viewers asked and I answered here.

The work look on the left is from LOFT, the Gigi Hadid-inspired look in the middle is from Roots and the long cardigan and jeans (tough to see in the above shot, I know) are from Bench.

Thanks, Hayley, for the photos!

Pinstagram | Orange You Glad I Didn’t Say Pear?

The Anthology’s Pinstagram column marries the dream (Pinterest) and the reality (Kelsey Dundon’s Instagram photos of places and faces in and around Vancouver).

juice and tart

Juicy. A thirst-quenching treat from Commodity Juicery + a pear tart.

Walls

Climbing the walls. My little monkey on the world’s coolest climbing wall + adorable wallpaper, which isn’t actually custom wallpaper made of that kid’s art, but the work of Gael Davrinche.

dog pic

Throwback. A print from a campaign I creative directed that hangs in my living room (read more about that campaign here) + a home so full of windows there would be no place to hang art at all.

office

The dream vs. the reality. My office always looks insane when I’m in the middle of a project + an office where everything is — enviably — in its place.

Hey, baby!

W and E

It’s been busy — and sleepless — around here. But it’s also been really cute and cuddly so I’m not complaining.
