Wear It Well: Holiday Looks for Men and Women on Global BC

Kelsey Dundon Global BC

Half the fun of going to a party is the anticipation (the other half  is definitely the dance floor), and a big chunk of that anticipation comes in figuring out what on earth you’re going to wear. Maybe you’re one of those people who buys an entirely new look for every event. Or maybe you’d rather mix and match pieces you already have. Either way, we’ve pulled together three beautiful looks for three very different types of affairs.

Watch the segment here. It features a magical — like seriously magical — bag from H&M, a season-less look from Forever 21, luxe velvet from Marciano, and versatile menswear (the textures! Oh, the textures!) from Boys’ Co., all at Metropolis at Metrotown locations.

Thanks, Metropolis at Metrotown and Global BC for having me! Thanks, Jerome, for all your help!

My dress is from H&M, shoes from Banana Republic.

Style | Wear Coziness Well

Kelsey Dundon Global Television

Here’s the thing about Vancouver: it’s basically fall all year ’round (except for the two months in the summer when it’s pure heaven but we’ll get to those another time). Which means autumn rules the wardrobe.

Wear It Well Metropolis at Metrotown

For my fall trend segment on Global BC I brought the timeless beauty: faux fur, leather, deep merlot. Watch it here. If anything it will make you feel emboldened to wear your fall gear well into spring.

Because hey, why not?

Thanks, Metropolis at Metrotown and Global Television, for having me! Thanks, Jerome Insorio and Hayley Hudson, for all your help!

Style | Bundle Up, Minus the Bulk

Kelsey Dundon TV Trend Segment

Baby, it’s cold outside. How many posts this time of year start like that? A million! Give or take. But seriously, even in Vancouver (where it’s usually mild and rainy) it’s c-o-l-d out there.

So you want to bundle up in a million layers but still want to look like a million bucks? Well then, my Global TV trend segment will help you feel warm while looking cool. It features looks from Old Navy, Roots, and H&M, all pulled from Metropolis at Metrotown: take a look!

Thanks for having me, Global BC and Metropolis at Metrotown! And thanks for your help, Jerome Insorio and Hayley Hudson!

The Style Set | Sonia Beeksma

sonia-beeksma1

There is an art to dressing for television. An outfit that looks incredible in real life — like say, beautiful billowy things or unconventional silhouettes — can look just plain odd when translated through the funhouse mirror that is your TV screen. Which means dressing for work is a challenge when your office is a television studio.

But you know who’s mastered this art? Global BC’s Sonia Beeksma. The stylish community reporter is so polished (even before the crack of dawn) I asked her to share some of her secrets. Herewith, her thoughts on everything from sweatpants to dress shorts, including a few tips that apply whether you’re in front of a television camera, or, you know…your iPhone camera.

sonia-beeksma2

What rules do you follow when dressing for work on air?
A sleek professional look with one bold statement piece.

What’s your go-to look on a day off?
A silk slip dress (I have a few colours) with a kimono, my Versace gold necklace and Rudsak kicks.

Y/N: Do you ever wish you could wear sweatpants to work?
No, I actually do not have a pair of sweatpants… ha! I love silks, and yes, I wish I could wear my silk pajamas to work.

What’s the best style advice you’ve ever received?
Less is more. Don’t wear every expensive item you own, you want to look approachable.

Who are your three favourite Instagrammers for style inspiration?
I love Jessica Luxe, she’s stunning and has an impeccable style. Whoever is posting for Ralph & Russo also has my attention. Because of them, I’m constantly looking for romantic pieces. Blake Lively, I would wear every single thing she has ever worn.

sonia-beeksma3

If you were a Snapchat filter which would you be?
I don’t use Snapchat, but if I was an Instagram filter, I would be Sierra. It has a day dreamy look, meaning not too far from reality.

If you could raid anyone’s closet (living or otherwise) who would it be?
The Queen. We can easily start off with her jewels, but when you look at her dresses from the 50s and 60s, the fabrics, texture and the structure, it’s exquisite. I know she has them stored somewhere and I want to get my hands on that closet or trunk!

What do you wish could wear on air that you just can’t?
Dress shorts.

What’s the funniest viewer feedback you’ve ever gotten on your on-air wardrobe?
I was wearing a black jumper with a massive bow on the side, a viewer emailed me congratulating me on my pregnancy. I guess the bow looked like a bump on her television. I laughed.

Follow Sonia on Instagram @soniabeeksmatv for more shots like these and my personal favourite, which was styled and photographed by her five-year-old.

Wear It Well | When It Rains

Kelsey Dundon Global TV

When Kate Middleton (or whatever you want to call her) was in town, the forecast called for rain during a good portion of the royal tour. Welcome to the Wet Coast, Cambridges!

Kelsey Dundon Global TV

I would argue dressing well for the rain — like, true West Coast rain — is harder than dressing for any other type of weather. So I brought a few ideas to my latest Global BC segment.

Outfit closeup

Like suiting separates under a waxed canvas jacket from Banana Republic (which would go nicely with a clear umbrella).

A beautiful felt coat with an oversized hood from Michael Kors, and a sporty chartreuse jacket from Geox.

Design | Modern Architecture Home Tour

naturalbuilders_chancellor_0134

I love my house. I’ve put a lot of love and (hired) labour into it over the years. But there’s a part of me that wants to tear it all down and build the kind of home you’d find featured in Dwell.

west22_3748

Or, say, the Vancouver Modern Architecture and Design Society.

park-house-1

Their fourth-annual tour takes place this weekend. It’s self-guided and takes you through five residences, almost like a collection of open houses that can never be yours.

myriam_8202

So if you, like me, like to architorture yourself by exploring homes that will make you want to bulldoze your own, you’ll find details here.

Style | Back to high school!

Kelsey Dundon Style Segment

I loved school. I miss school. Everything about it — the new supplies, the locker decorations, the slurpees I used to get on my walk home; I look back on all of it so fondly.

Kelsey Dundon Back to School Trends Global TV

Then there’s the new wardrobe. I don’t remember any of my first-day-back looks, but I distinctly remember a silver headband I wore for grade ten. It was metal. It was shiny. It was painful AF (maybe that’s why it’s the only piece that’s seared into my memory).

Kelsey Dundon Global Back to School

Now, what I’m dying to know is: If you’re going back to high school on Tuesday, do you strategize about what will work best on Instagram, Snapchat or some other social site I haven’t even heard of yet? Or do you plan your outfit for the runway that is your school hallway?

Either way, I highlight three super-stylish trends for back to school in my latest Global TV segment, featuring looks from Forever 21, Old Navy and Guess.

Thanks for having me, Global TV and Metropolis at Metrotown! And thanks for your help, Jerome Insorio and Hayley Hudson!

P.S. Take a look at behind the scenes shots of one of my favourite back to school print shoots, and my very first back to school segment — which also happened to be my very first live segment ever.

Style | Fall’s new details

unnamed-5

This fall feels prettier than most. At least in terms of the clothes. The fabrics are luxe, the colour palettes are rich, the details are extra detail-y.

Kelsey Dundon Global Television Metropolis at Metrotown

It all makes for a lovely season, sartorially speaking.

Fall Trends Global TV

In my latest Global Television segment, I share three of the biggest trends you’ll find in stores, featuring looks from Club Monaco, Roots, H&M, Hudson’s Bay, and BCBGMAXAZRIA, all at Metropolis at Metrotown.

Take a look…
