Sniff! Sniff! Hooray! It’s a Marc Jacobs BANG giveaway!

It’s peppery, it’s woody, it’s Marc Jacobs’ latest fragrance. And peeps are loving it.

Want to win a 50ml bottle for you, your man, or your favourite man friend? (Obviously.) There are three ways to enter — do all three and you’ll be entered thrice!

For one entry: Comment on this post and tell us: Who deserves to smell this good? (I’d pick my husband. My mother, on the other hand, picked Pierce Brosnan.)

For two entries: Write on The Anthology’s Facebook wall.

For three entries: Holler @TheAnthology on Twitter.

This giveaway is open to residents of Canada only. (Sorry international friends, we love you, but rules are rules.) The lucky winner will be chosen on Wednesday, November 24th. Good luck!

Christmas Time Equals Craft Time!

As an assignment for their Fashion Writing course, students of the Vancouver College of Art and Design were asked to write a guest post on a Vancouver fashion blog. Kristine Wilkinson is one such student. And The Anthology is one such blog. Herewith, her guest post:

If you’re looking for something exciting to do this weekend, check out the annual Circle Craft Christmas Market happening at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

Unlike the craft fairs I used to attend as a child with my mom, you’ll be hard pressed to find tacky ceramic tree ornaments and homemade wreaths here. Instead, there’s an impressive lineup of fine jewellery makers, clothing made from natural fibres, handmade soaps and candles, and art made out of everything from wood and metal to glass and leather.

If you’re like me and appreciate someone else doing your holiday baking, there will also be a delicious selection of sweet treats to keep you satisfied as you adventure through ‘homemade heaven’. (Sweet Thea Cake Company)

Here are a few of the market exhibitors I’ll be checking out – and these are just tip of the tree.

Of course, if you see a booth full of hand painted ceramic Santa Claus heads and Rudolph doorknob covers, make sure to stop in and take a peek…if only for nostalgia’s sake. I know I will!

Thanks Kristine! If I were your teacher, I’d give you an A+.

P.S. Those of you at the back of the class, add The Anthology on Facebook.

Lovers of pampering, rejoice!

For there’s a new spa in town.

frilly-lilly-interior-vancouver

Frilly Lilly has opened its first confectionary-inspired location in Vancouver.

frilly-lilly-the-anthology

And I was at the opening party. (Seemingly lost in thought — about the meaning of life or manicures, I can’t remember.)

With much of the interior designed by my favourite Vancouver-based home decor store, The Cross, the space is beautiful.

vintage-sequin-cardigan

Wore a vintage sequin cardigan, plum-coloured silk button up shirt.

suede-shorts

And my favourite suede shorts.

frilly-lilly-product

The best part of the night? I was sent home with a goodie bag filled with their sugary sweet products. And I’ve been rejoicing ever since.

P.S. Lovers of Facebook, rejoice! For The Anthology is on it.

Pop quiz

You’re going to go see Mayer Hawthorne. What do you wear?

mayer-hawthorne

If you answered a sweater vest, skinny tie and thick-rimmed glasses, you really should be in the band. Went to see the LA-based crooner last night. And rocked out. (Haven’t heard him? Have a listen here. And while you’re at it, send the link to your mom. She’ll like his retro sound too. I’d bet my ironic v-neck sweater on it.)

plaid-jacket-striped-shirt

Wore stripes and plaids.

paint-splatter-jean-shorts

My homemade paint-splattered cut-off Levi’s.

converse-all-stars

And my new grey Converse All Stars.

jean-paint-splatter-shorts

Which were a gift from Converse. (Thank you guys! If I had half the talent of Mayer Hawthorne, I’d write you a love song.)

P.S. Pop quiz: what should you add on Facebook? If you answered The Anthology you get 10 bonus points.

Not-so-basic basics

Who wants blah-blah boring basics? Not me! Give me unexpected details. Give me subtle attention-grabbers. Give me JNBY. With modern staples (and an eco-friendly slant), their designs each have their own twist.

jnby-canada-leather-jacket-detail

I should know. I got up close and personal with plenty of them. Like the butter-soft leather jacket with bleached details.

And the sweater with swiss cheese holes.

JNBY’s palettes are often muted, so the looks are all about textures and layers.

grey-jnby-skirt

Or, in the case of the skirt I opted for, built-in, rough-edged layers. As soon as the holiday parties start I’m going to be wearing this baby all over town. Nothing blah-blah boring about that.

Thank you JNBY for the mini shopping spree!

P.S. We pick a winner on Tuesday, so enter the Summer Ellis Eternite necklace giveaway before it’s too late!

You’ve heard of a man repeller, right?

It, according to  Leandra of the blog Man Repeller, is “outfitting oneself in a sartorially offensive way that will result in repelling members of the opposite sex.”

plaid-cape-vintage

She lists harem pants and boyfriend jeans as a few examples. I’d like to add capes to the mix. Because if there’s one thing that’s going to baffle the opposite sex, it’s draping yourself in shapeless blue plaid.

vintage-plaid-cape

And this particular piece of shapeless blue plaid is vintage, which means there’s some old lady out there whose closet repelled this man repeller.

Well, gentlemen, it’s my turn.

P.S. Have you heard? We’re giving away a silver necklace (that isn’t even close to being a man repeller).
