Even though it was shot in the middle of the summer I layered like it was October — wore my men’s H&M tank top with the necklace I assembled.

And my rad plaid LAMB jacket.

When we went out I wore my one-shouldered, slightly metallic disco dress which was Rachel Zoe long until I had it chopped.

After reading the post about my little pirate bracelet, Lexie, my new favourite DIY-er, upped and turned her great-grandmother’s antique Thai bracelet into a very modern-looking wrist wrap. 

The gold-plated piece was missing a clasp so Lexie wrapped it twice around her wrist and tied it with a bold red ribbon. “It clashes brilliantly with my hair (since my hair is pretty much the same colour as Jessi’s) but as long as I don’t hold it up to my head I think I should be fine,” she says.

A frilly, ruffly dress?

Obviously.

Wore it to my first baby shower (congratulations Sheri and Paul!), which makes me feel like a true adult.

The dress is from Vincent Park. The Dior scarf is from Printemps in Paris. Man, I would do anything to be there right now.

The men’s vintage Omega watch (that I so desperately wish were mine) belongs to my husband. I’m considering trolling eBay for another men’s watch — maybe a big gaudy, cheesy one in yellow gold.

I yanked the earrings — which are from New Mexico — from my ma’s jewelry collection. I’m going to wear them with everything. Always. Even though playing dress up in your mom’s clothes is hardly a grown up thing to do.

there are people in my life who love vintage shopping as much as I do. Yes, there are those who just don’t have the patience to wade through the rough in order to find the diamonds.

But my sister, thank heavens, is on Team Vintage.

She, like me, mixes the old (her bag) with the new (her Banana Republic dress). And, come to think of it, she tends to stick to jewel tones too.

On an unrelated (but funny) note, she bought her headband because it reminded her of Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliya Timoshenko.

But a quality shopping buddy is so key. Who else is going to spot the black leather skirt that would be perfect on you?

It’s by Jones New York, so you know it was meant to be quiet, tasteful. At least by the standards of the day.

I found it at F as in Frank (which is, on a side note, where Anthology reader Sally found her rad new belt and necklace).

And I wore it with a scarf! Well, actually a men’s pocket square from J. Crew, but I still think that means I’m sticking to my midsummer’s resolution.

The beautiful thing about it? It works just as well with a tuxedo jacket and shbooties as it does with sweatpants. Plus, it’s softer than a pile of kittens.

My power ring is from the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul.

The two gold chains are vintage (just saw quite a selection of them at F as in Frank today, if you’re looking for something similar). The beaded necklace I made using my ma’s pendant from the 50’s.

My jeans are Mynk. They were hole-less when I bought them, but I roughed them up using as cheese grater and a pair of scissors after Leroy (in a fit of puppy-ness) ripped them.

Mostly because whenever I go to a thrift store or an old ladies’ church group sale, I come home with bags full.

And whenever I think of tying a scarf, I think of the knot Audrey tied in Roman Holiday.

Which is cute and classic (not unlike Audrey herself, come to think of it).

But when I saw this photo from the Satorialist it reminded me of all the ways I’m not wearing my scarves — wrapped around my wrist, tied up as halter tops, stuffed into a pocket as a pocket square.

So I made a midsummer’s resolution: I’m going to start wearing more scarves more ways. They’re too pretty to stay in my closet.

Anji’s distressed leather clutch is vintage. So, so jealous of that find.

Turns out they’re good for running. We made it to the church on time.

All I need is a horse, a wicked hat and those puffy pants to complete the look.

The jacket was a thrift store find. It was actually the buttons sold me. They’re not exactly Mountie-esque, but they do work beautifully with my love of all things nautical.

And the colour matches my nail polish, which I did not do on purpose.

I swear.

That was the resounding response when I asked all y’all if I should slash my Expo 86 shirt to pieces.

Thank you for stopping me. I was comfortable taking the risk of DIY-ing a pair of vintage jeans to death, but with a shirt I’d been looking for ever since my brother refused to give me his? That would be tragic.

Of all the bracelets I wore it with, the big silver (well, aluminum) one has the most sentimental value (not actual value, obviously). I bought it in Playa del Carmen because it has the Mayan calendar imprinted on it.

Then there are my DKNY acid wash jean cut-offs which my friend (and colleague) Sonja made me buy while we were shopping during lunch one day. Ahhh peer pressure.
