Style | Me to We Rafiki Chain

There are accessories you buy as souvenirs, there are accessories you buy because they look cool and there are accessories you buy because doing so would feed a child in East Africa.

(No, that’s not my manly, tattooed hand, that’s City and Colour’s Dallas Green.)

Buy one limited-edition Rafiki chain ($10.00 CDN), beaded by Me to We artisans in Kenya, and you’ll feed one child in East Africa. For a whole month.

If you’re in Toronto you can get yours at the Me to We store, and if you’re not, you can get yours online. I bought five.

We’ve got your good deed for the week covered

And yes, it involves shopping. The first-ever Fashionista’s Ball takes place this Sunday with bonafide vintage treasures, designer pieces from just a few seasons ago, fine jewelry, a silent auction, door prizes and more.

The best part? All proceeds go to the United Way.

The Women United in Philanthropy have collected more than 3000 perfect-condition pieces from some of Vancouver’s most stylish women (including many donated by you wonderful Anthology readers — thank you!).

So spread the word, bring your friends and shop selflessly! The Fashionista’s Ball takes place this Sunday, May 29th, from 10:00 – 4:00 at 1095 West Pender Street in Vancouver.

See you there!

UPDATE: I just heard that the Fashionista’s Ball raised an astounding $70,000 for the United Way of the Lower Mainland this weekend. An amazing, amazing feat! Kudos to all of you who donated, volunteered and shopped for a worthy cause.

Giving is glamourous

I have a strict shopping policy — one giant bag of clothing in, one giant bag of clothing out.

Beautiful clothes closet

It’s the only way to keep my closet somewhat under control. So as I’m spring cleaning, I’m donating some of my prized pieces to the Fashionista’s Ball, where Women United in Philanthropy are collecting donations to be sold at their huge fundraising event on May 29th. The best part? All proceeds go to the United Way.

Want to donate too? Email them at info@fashionistasball.com or call 604.369.3944 before May 10th and they’ll pick up your donations from anywhere in Vancouver.

Clearing out your closet has never been so rewarding.

Guess what!

It was a huge success!

Vancouver’s Guess Fashion Blogger Night hosted by The Anthology, Style StruckAlicia Fashionista and A Haute Mess in support of FITE was so. much. fun.

guess-vancouver-fashion-bloggers

And it was all thanks to those of you who came out and supported the cause (and enjoyed a few cocktails and a bit of shopping with your philanthropy).

guess-mojitos

It was so wonderful to see so many familiar faces and to meet so, so  many of you for the first time.

I was more than a little stoked that Peak Season’s DJ Morel spun for us, that the incredible Vancouver designer Jason Matlo (pictured above) was there, and that photographer Evaan Kheraj captured the whole thing on camera. Want to keep clicking? You’ll find even more coverage from Rick ChungMelissa KnightCicy ChanAlicia FashionistaStyle StruckDiamonds in the City, and Chloe Hoppie.

Thank you, Team Guess, for an amazing evening! And from the bottom of my heart, thanks to all of you came out and supported FITE.

Hair by Suki’s, dress by Guess (obvi).

P.S. I’ve posted a billion more photos on The Anthology’s Facebook page. Take a peek and tag your friends!

Just like Claudia Schiffer before me

I’m going to be repping Guess! Not as a supermodel, mind you. But as a party host.

You’re invited to an evening of cocktails and blogging! (It’s every bit as glamourous as it sounds.) Wednesday, April 6th at Guess on Robson. Come by! Say hi to some of your favourite Vancouver fashion bloggers — A Haute Mess, Style StruckAlicia Fashionista et moi. And, most importantly, support FITE.

See you there!

T minus one week until…

Cocktails are always better when you enjoy them for a cause, non? The same could be said of fashion shows. And what do ya know — Fashion’s Night Out Vancouver combines them both.

Next Tuesday (the 8th), The Bay’s beautiful White Space will be putting on a show at V Lounge at Earl’s Yaletown. You’re invited! Tickets are $20 and all proceeds go to Out in Schools, a nonprofit that works to end bullying. Want in? Get your tickets here.

A concert for a cause

eva-markvoort-65-red-rosesIf ever someone lived life with passion and purpose, it was Eva Markvoort. The bright, beautiful 25-year-old lost her battle with cystic fibrosis last year, but her tireless work to bring awareness to the disease left a powerful legacy.

A legacy that is being honoured at the 65 Red Roses Benefit Concert on Friday, February 11.

BC’s own folk hero Dan Mangan will perform alongside the Zolas, and Hannah Georgas. Tickets are $34 and all proceeds go to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. If you’re in Vancouver, come! Spread the word. Let’s sell this thing out.

And if you’re not in Vancouver, you can still join Eva’s movement.  65_RedRoses, the documentary that chronicled her battle with CF, has been picked up by the Oprah Winfrey Network, which means those of you in the States will have a chance to see it too.

I urge you to watch it. Not just because I want to support my friends the filmmakers, but because it will compel you to register to be an organ donor. And that is what Eva worked tirelessly for.

Number 4

Whereas everything else on The Anthology’s top ten of 2010 is just plain ridiculous, number four is ridiculously heartwarming.

hope-in-haiti

4. The most ridiculously heartwarming display of community: your support of Hope in Haiti. After an earthquake devastated Haiti last January, my sister Larissa, my friend Kim, and I decided to raise some much-needed funds. Thus Hope in Haiti was born. The WIZERDZDJ Flipout and DJ Soo performed, Barcelona hosted and no less than 37 companies sponsored the auction.

Thanks to you, we raised more than $17,000 for the Red Cross’ relief efforts in Haiti. And when matched by the Canadian government, that means more than $34,000 of aid went to the devastated country. A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and talents to make it such a success: Mattie, Rica, Gregory, Rachel, Alexa, Lara, Lib, Kim, Dana, John, Rob, Sonja, Connie, KellyAnn, Michael and Mike. You guys are the best!

OMG, it’s FNO!

The night that launched a thousand parties is upon us.

fashions-night-out-detail

The brainchild of Anna Wintour, Fashion’s Night Out is taking over major cities throughout the States. So how can those of us north of the border join in the fashionable fun? Flare’s got the details.

And if you’re looking to purchase an FNO shirt, you can find a list of stores that carry it here. Proceeds benefit the New York City AIDS Fund.

So go! Shop! Have fun! Just don’t tell Anna Wintour these shorts used to look like this.

P.S. Add the Anthology on Facebook — it’s the next best thing to attending Fashion’s Night Out.
