Summer Ellis giveaway!

How many pieces of jewelry do you wear every day? Stylist Rachel Zoe says she wears about a dozen, I’d estimate that I wear half that.

necklaces

But in some cases you need to wear only one piece to make a statement.

summer-ellis-eternite-necklace1

Especially when you’re talking about this beautiful silver Eternite necklace from Canada’s own Summer Ellis. It’s classic, it’s timeless, and it could be yours.

Because Summer Ellis is giving it away.

For one entry: Comment on this post and tell us how you’d wear it. (Clearly I’d wear it piled high with jewelry.)

For two entries: Write on The Anthology’s Facebook wall.

For three entries: Holler @TheAnthology on Twitter.

This giveaway is open to residents of North America, Europe and Asia. The lucky winner will be chosen on Tuesday, November 9th. Good luck!

Plus, Summer Ellis is offering all you lovely Anthology readers 10% off — use code ANTH10 at checkout, valid until November 15, 2010.

Happy Halloweekend!

Pumpkin carving, candy galore and an excuse to play the Ghostbusters theme song on repeat? It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

But my favourite part? The costume parties. And when you’re as dark-haired and fair-skinned as I am, there’s one costume that seems a natural fit.

snow-white-costume-750

I figured that out in grade 8. And I’ve been rocking the same Snow White costume every October 31st since then. I wish I was kidding.

snow-white-shoes-750

But I’m a little obsessed with the girl (she’s even part of the computer I’m typing on right now). So I’ll be breaking out the red lipstick again this year.

Hope your Halloween is spooktacular! What are you being? Sleepy, Sneezy, Dopey, Grumpy, Doc, Happy, or Bashful, by any chance?

P.S. Hi ho! Hi ho! It’s off to Twitter we go!

I’ve had “Sunrise at Joshua Tree National Park” on my bucket list

Ever since I went to Coachella and fell in love with the desert.

joshua-tree-national-park-750

Now, I can check it off my list. Because when I was in California a few weeks ago, I got up well before the crack of dawn to catch this…

And boy was it worth it. 6:00 am never looked so good.

southwest-scarf-flip-750

Now I’ve got the desert in my bones. And closet. I found this southwest-inspired scarf at a thrift shop and it hasn’t left my side since.

All the colours — the pinks and peaches and pastel purples — you see them in the landscape. (You know what else you see in the landscape? Me, doing my best Joshua Tree impression.)

southwest-scarf-750

I can’t wait to go back to the desert next spring and check “Coachella 2011” off my bucket list. Till then, I’ll be wearing this scarf and pretending it isn’t pouring rain in Vancouver.

P.S. Check “Win a £ 385.oo pearl necklace” off your bucket list.

It’s kind of like Big Foot

Everyone’s heard of the bridesmaid’s dress you’d actually wear again, but no one really believes it exists.

bridesmaids-dresses

You remember these dresses, right?

briesmaids-dress-750

Well, they should go down in history. Because they’ve been worn again — I chose to wear mine with a faux lambskin vest and open-toed boots.

laura-750

Laura wore her bridesmaid’s skirt with a jacket and flat boots instead of the matching bustier.

petal-skirt-750

It’s irrefutable proof of the existence of a re-wearable bridesmaid’s ensemble. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna try to catch the Loch Ness Monster.

P.S. You know what would look beautiful with any kind of dress? The pearl necklace you could win!

Thanks Laura and Reily for the photos!

A very glamourous giveaway

Audrey Hepburn loved them. Coco Chanel draped herself in them. And every woman who has ever walked a red carpet has worn them.

Pearls are classic.

Now, British designers Rebecca and Penelope have given the glamourous favourite a modern twist by introducing leather and chains and ribbons and, in this case, tassels.

Rebecca and Penelope want to give you this gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous pearl tassel necklace. Handmade in England of 4mm pearls on a 30-inch strand, it would look amazing on you. So how do you enter to win?

For one entry: Comment on this post and tell us how you’d wear it. (I’d wear it with a t-shirt and leather skirt.)

For two entries: Write on The Anthology’s Facebook wall.

For three entries: Holler @TheAnthology on Twitter.

This giveaway is open to residents of Canada, USA, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The lucky winner will be chosen on Tuesday, October 25th. Good luck!
UPDATE: And the lucky winner is… Chloe Hoppie! Congratulations!

The A-list | Los Angeles: City of Angels and ridiculous experiences

I just got back and, in the interest of sharing, I thought I’d compile a list of some of my most memorable experiences.

palm-trees

All of which I’d highly recommend you try.

pierce-brosnan365

1. Engage in intense eye contact with Pierce Brosnan. Some might call it staring. I prefer to call it “sharing a moment”. (As for whether he was thinking “My god, that woman is stunning.” Or “My god, why is that woman wearing an old Canucks t-shirt and maple leaf mittens?” we’ll never know for sure.) [Photo found here.]

posh-and-becks-la-kings-game

2. Attend a Canucks/Kings game with Posh and Becks. Even if “with” really means “sitting across the arena from.”

3. Shop like a local. [Photo found here.]

4. Get offered a fake rolex and a real live bunny rabbit on Venice Beach. [Photo found here.]

gjelina-abbot-kinney-los-angeles

5. Have lunch at Gjelina. Just don’t try to ask for any modifications. They won’t even take the bacon out of your BLT. [Photo found here.]

6. Stroll through galleries and vintage shops on Abbot Kinney and imagine you’re furnishing your $4m Abbot Kinney apartment. [Photo found here.]

pizzeria-mozza-la

7. Eat at Pizzeria Mozza. Remember that pizza scene in Eat Pray Love? I’m willing to bet this pizza is better (especially if you try the one with stracchino, artichokes, lemon and olives). [Photo found here.]

miike-snow-show

8. See Miike Snow at Club Nokia. Actually it doesn’t matter where you see them. They’d be amazing in a parking lot. [Photo found here.]

Oh, Los Angeles, I miss you already. I’ll be back real soon, I promise.

P.S. The Anthology likes you a lot. You should like it too.

I’m off to L.A.!

And as much as I love that city, I don’t know it very well. So I’ve enlisted the help of everybody’s favourite L.A.-based blogger Bri Emery of DesignLoveFest, who has compiled a list of her favourite three unique boutiques.
And here’s what she has to say:
1. It seems every Saturday I get this itch. That itch is scratched when I enter Wasteland on Melrose Avenue. Looking for a pair of perfect black and white striped shorts, or perhaps a sequined vintage dress that is just your size? Well, now you know where to get one! (Photo found here.)

2. And doesn’t it seem like there is always an occasion to celebrate & a gift to give for it? To find the best little handmade trinkets in town, I head over to Reform School in Silver Lake. It is piled high with eco-friendly clothing, hand embroidered pillows & fantastic paper products galore! (Photo found here.)

3. Not too far from Reform School sits Lawson-Fenning. This little home decor shop is not to be missed! This shop provides me with endless inspiration as far as decorating my own Silver Lake abode goes. The furniture they chose is delicious to say the least, and the back room is stacked to the ceiling with coffee table books that will keep you busy for hours! (Photo found here.)
Thank you, Bri! Cannot wait to go exploring.
P.S. Fall in love with DesignLoveFest.

If you’re going shopping this weekend…

And if you’re in Vancouver, might I suggest you stop by Barefoot Contessa on Main Street? And might I also suggest you put a little window shopping in your shopping?

barefoot-contessa-window

I styled the windows of Vancouver’s favourite independent boutique. The theme I chose? Le weekend. (I’m Saturday and Sunday’s biggest fan.)

disco-ball-closeup

Packed one window with pretty party dresses, chunky jewelry and disco balls perfect for a Saturday night dance party.

styling-barefoot-contessa-main-street

And the other with frilly floral dresses perfect for Sunday afternoon high tea. (Is there a better excuse to get dressed up and get together with your girlfriends? Nope.)

barefoot-contessa-vancouver

Already one of the dresses sold right out of the window. (They’re ridiculously pretty. I can’t take credit.)

barefoot-contessa-vancouver-blogger

Thank you, Barefoot Contessa, for the invitation. I had a blast! And I can’t wait to see how the other Vancouver bloggers decorate the windows.

P.S. If you’re tweeting this weekend, might I suggest you follow The Anthology?
