if the chain on your wrist matches the chain on your blouse?

Ummmm…

That’s a tough one.

The opposite of tough? Lace. Which covers my high-waisted knee-length skirt.

But back to the pressing question at hand — is it matchy-matchy if you match your shoes to your handbag?

I’d say it’s a toss up. (I’m sorry. I’m the worst.)
other than the fact that I just watched the outrageously beautiful Marie Antoinette for the 8,367th time, here’s Jason Schwartzman.

Something about this photo makes me wish I was at the shoot when it was taken. I’d like to think they would have been rocking out to something from the Marie Antoinette soundtrack (which is my favourite) trying not to burst out laughing.

So they’re my baby brother’s band. The WZRDZ, my favourite band ever, put on a ridiculously magical live show. Have never laughed and danced and then kept laughing and dancing as much as I did when they played Lucky Bar in Victoria this weekend.

Wore my husband’s vintage Vancouver shirt, my vintage eel-skin bag and more bracelets than you can shake a wand at.
Didn’t rock my Gryffindor cape after all and I got reprimanded by a gentleman in a Harry Potter costume because of it (I won’t let you down next time, Elliott.).

Also wore my favourite boots. A few of you were asking where I found them (Nordstrom, last year) but I did see a similar pair by Sam Edelman at Freedman in Victoria this past weekend.

I also got a little crafty with my vintage jean jacket and sewed on a couple patches (the one above I found at Rugby in New York).

I know you’ve been sewing badges on things since you were in Brownies but I’m not as crafty as you are. Nor am I as magical.
Hocus pocus, friends, I cannot wait ’til the WZRDZ play Vancouver!
But when you can take a pair of boyfriend jeans and polish ’em up? That, I’m into.

Wore them with my shbooties, which, like my open-toed booties, will have to be tucked away for the long, long rainy season we’re expecting in the Couv.

The jeans are so freaking comfy I wear them casually (well, sailor-y) too. But with my Club Monaco tuxedo jacket and belt, they’re wearable to work.

My ma found these earrings in New Mexico. (When I said I’d wear them with everything, I wasn’t kidding.)
Though I’d call them boyfriend jeans, they’re actually ladies jeans I bought a few sizes too big (funny, they feel so much baggier in real life than they look in photos).
Regardless, they’re a keeper.
Everybody’s favourite fantasy-themed electronica dance rock band The WZRDZ will be performing live Sunday, Sept. 6th at Lucky Bar in Victoria. My baby bro is the drummer so I’ll be there with my Gryffindor cape on. Draco Dormiens Numquam Titillandus!

Last time I went I spotted these brilliant, outrageously stylish ladies amidst the dragon and unicorn costumes.
Man I’m excited. If you’re in Victoria (heck, even if you’re not) you don’t want to miss it. Thanks to Tori for the photo.
When you and your dad show up wearing plaid…

It’s pretty rad.

Both are men’s shirts. His, for obvious reasons. Mine, for comfy cozy reasons.
“Yeah, but is yours Columbia?” he asks me.

No siree. It’s vintage.

Which means this plaid once belonged to someone else’s rad dad.
I was beginning to think I wasn’t meant to see the Friendly Fires in concert. When they opened for Lykke Li, I showed up too late to catch them (smooth move, Kels).
Then they returned to Vancouver the same night Britney Spears was here and I chose Britney. Obviously. (How else would I have gotten to experience this?)

Now, they’re coming to Venue on Thursday, November 26th. And I feel like I’ve been given a third chance to make it all right.

can make you sick.

Which may just be why I tend to wear sweet frilly dresses with rugged, casual boots.

They add a little edge to take the edge off.

If that makes any sense.

Wore them with bangles from all over the place (my mom found the black and white zig-zaggy one in Mexico years ago).

It’s sort of like my little Estelle Getty — she may look sweet as can be, but she’s one tough lady.
Not a single one. But when I went to the PNE this weekend, I watched enough Superdogs insanity, lost enough carnival games and ate enough cotton candy to last me through spring 2010.

They say the PNE is the best part of summer, and I might just agree if it didn’t herald the end of that season.
On a side note, aren’t pirates b-b-b-bad to the bone? Man, I love them.

Speaking of things I love — the farm exhibition part of the equation. It was full of so many adorable piglets and chicks and lambs, I just wanted to scoop them all up and snuggle them for days.

Which is about how long I’m going to be suffering from an overdose of deep-fried oreos.

Would I recommend them? Absolutely. Just not after a dinner of poutine, perogies and pizza.
‘Til next year, PNE. ‘Til next year.
