After | The printed pants

You’d never guess that these shorts…

printed-shorts-after

Used to look like these pants

It was almost a shame to chop those up.

But I got over it fast.

after-printed-vintage-pants-converted-short

Because I’ll be wearing these shorts all summer long. If we get a summer, that is. (Come on, Vancouver! It’s mid-June for crying out loud.)

Style | Canucks for the cup!

So it turns out this experiment worked.

canucks-t-shirt1

I mean, I can’t take all the credit for the Canucks’ latest win. (There were people who actually played the game and stuff.)

But still. I’m feeling the pressure to wear this vintage Canucks t-shirt until Vancouver’s favourite hockey team brings home the Stanley Cup.

Which might just be tonight.

team-bear

Though I gotta admit — dogs playing football are endlessly entertaining.

Gooooooo Canucks!

P.S. I’m going to RockWater Resort this week and I’ll be tweeting from my tenthouse suite so follow along.

Style | You know what the Canucks have been missing?

Me.

vintage-canucks-t-shirt

Because even as Vancouver has been going absolutely totally completely off the wall for this team, I’ve been busy doing other things. Like laundry.

But after two dismal losses in the Stanley Cup Finals, I figured the Canucks could use all the support they can get. (Even !!! lead singer Nic Offer’s a fan, for Pete’s sake.)

And those of you from other parts of the world ask: Who are the Canucks?

canucks-vintage-tee-shirt

I’m really not the right person to answer that. Something to do with hockey.

Go ‘Nucks!

P.S. Hop on the Facebook bandwagon!

Before: The Printed Pants

I don’t even know what to say about these. Other than that they were a “gift” from a friend who challenged me to turn these into something wearable.

printed-pants-pre-alterations

What is it that makes people give/challenge me with hideous pieces of clothing?

printed-pants-before

I don’t know, but I’m not complaining. That’s where two of The Anthology’s best before-and-afters came from: the granny nightie and the Hammer pants (thank you, Surina and Melissa!).

Man, I can’t wait to show you the “after” shots.

P.S. We pick a winner of the Justine Brooks Helicopter giveaway on Wednesday. Enter while there’s still time!

Sasquatch Steeze

When Vancouver-based photographer Braden Paul shot Sasquatch for The Anthology, he didn’t just capture the artists. He also captured some of the most artistic (and stylish) festival-goers…

You wouldn’t show up to a Gucci event in anything but Gucci, would you?

Fringe? Freckles? Adorbs.

PBR. Respect.

Cat suit + fanny pack = vintage done right

A fine example of mixing and matching prints.

Ever since the Royal Wedding, hats have been huge.

This photo pretty much sums up music festivals: you get all gussied up in your pretty dress and end up drinking beside a garbage can.

Don’t touch that dial, friends, there are more festival fotos to come!

What a transformation!

I’m still in shock.

surinas-dress-after

This dress is the sartorial equivalent of the Biggest Loser. Because it used to look like this

surinas-dress

How’d my tailor work that magic?

surina-detail

Well, she lopped off the sleeves, widened the collar and removed the old-lady lace and tie-dyed appliques. So now it’s pure country-chic.

bear-hunting

She also, of course, shortened the hem so it’s the appropriate length for chasing a Bear.

bear-bottom

Not that it helped me catch him. That yellow lab is quick.

P.S. I’m going to be lecturing at Simon Fraser University so from now on I’m only going to respond to “Professor”.

Your very own helicopter: a giveaway!

Remember collecting helicopter seeds on your way home from school when you were young?

justine-brooks-pendant

Award-winning Vancouver designer Justine Brooks does. She’s used those sycamore blades to cast gorgeous sterling silver pendants (that would look great with a crisp white shirt). The best part? Justine Brooks wants to give a sterling silver helicopter pendant (valued at $110) to one of you lucky Anthology readers! So how do you win?

For one entry: Comment on this post and tell us how you’d style it. (I’d wear it solo around my neck, but I’d pile on the bracelets.)
For two entries: Write on The Anthology’s Facebook wall.
For three entries: Holler @TheAnthology on Twitter.

The contest is open to readers worldwide and the winner will be chosen on Wednesday, June 8th. Good luck!

UPDATE: And we have a winner! Congratulations Cassie Lee!
