When was the last time you walked to the post office…

picked out a postage stamp, came home, wrote something by hand, walked to the mail box and sent it off? It was a year ago, wasn’t it?

I knew it. Dream Sequins changed all that when she proposed her Postcards from my Hometown project.

glitter-pens

Now, I’m writing postcards like a madwoman to bloggers in Romania and the States. Trying to distract them from my 12-year-old boy quality penmanship with lots of colours (and just a touch of glitter).

postcard-from-london

I received a postcard all the way from London from Saskia of Saskia’s Spot, which is full of absolutely gorgeous photography, lovely, happy thoughts and words like “spiffing” and “chaps”.

stationery

It all makes me so, so happy because I might just love stationery more than anything else in the world. (Yes, that is a 24kt gold dipped maple leaf in the photo above. And yes, I am that Canadian.) The postcards are by John Derian (I found them at The Cross) and the letter holder they’re sitting in is an antique my ma found forever ago.

Admit it: you’ve been meaning to write something by hand forever, haven’t you?

I don’t hand write enough. I make all these promises to myself that I’ll write more and actually post letters to friends and family… but never do. Got to get on that train…

what a great idea. the last time i wrote a letter i’m fairly certain was in march to my pen pal of 12+ years. i used to be a more dedicated pen pal… life gets too busy sometimes to enjoy little things like hand-written letters. =/

That’s awesome! I too have a ridiculous love for stationary. Since I’m going back to school this September I got to go school supply shopping. It made me so happy!

That is VERY Canadian :) I had a “Canadian” moment today, my soccer team, Seattle Sounders FC was playing at home against Toronto FC, the only Canadian team currently in MLS and the first game they have ever played on our field. Which means, the first time the Canadian national anthem was probably ever sung at Qwest Field, and I got to be part of it. I had to give some drunk guy a piece of my mid when he started shouting “USA USA” during our anthem, but other than that it was a great experience.

I will be posting pictures on my blog either today or tomorrow.

I’d love to send you a postcard from Seattle!

I’ve been doing a sort of pen pal correspondence with a Vancouver blogger who moved to Japan since January or so actually. We buy kitschy Asian stationery (the kind where the envelopes and the paper match) and we write back and forth. It’s a lot of fun!

Tales — I’m the same way. I never write cards and things like I should.

Quelle — that’s pretty b-b-b-bad to the bone that you have a pen pal.

Jessica — I’m so happy that you got to be part of such a proud Canadian moment in Seattle.

Dreamsequins — thanks for linking to it! Aaaand thanks for prompting this postcard exchange!

Gerri — there’s nothing more precious than beautiful stationery, is there?

Lisa — how much fun! It’s kind of like passing notes back and forth in school (which I miss) — you get so excited to receive one and then cherish it forever.

how fun! i haven’t received mine yet and I’ve written mine up but haven’t sent them. I ended up finding something else other than what we picked out together the other day.

I actually have been writing to a friend all summer. She went away on a ridiculous long canoe trip and we’ve been writing all summer, it’s been nice to get things by mail. And I have those gel pens from the first picture! I have a huge case of them I got so so many years ago and have no idea why I kept them but for some reason I have.
