Bookmark | Advanced Style

In The Anthology’s Bookmark column we explore some of the most inspiring places on the wild, wild web.

We all admire the style of those who come before us. Heck, half the time we’re repurposing trends they started anyway.

Advanced Style takes it to a whole new level.

Run by New Yorker Ari Seth Cohen, the blog is like a Sartorialist of the silver-haired, built on the premise that personal style gets better with age.

It features style tips from a centenarian (dress up every day and don’t wear blue jeans), collaborations with Dita von Teese and vintage style galore.

So bookmark Advanced Style already. And bookmark The Anthology while you’re at it.

Thank you, Masey, for sending this my way!

You’ve already bookmarked Sea of Shoes, right?

But have you bookmarked Atlantis Home? Run by Judy Aldridge (mother to Sea of Shoes’ Jane Aldridge) it’s one of my very favourite style/design/inspiration-filled blogs.

I love her jewelry line. I love her style — she’s mastered the art of the ladylike jacket, rock ‘n’ roll t-shirt and roughed-up jeans with funky footwear. And that’s a style that will take you from work (if you, like me, work in a creative industry) to post-work cocktails to a midnight show.

And I especially love her love of all things vintage.

So bookmark Atlantis Home already. And bookmark The Anthology while you’re at it.

It might be far from spring in North America. But guess where the warm, sunny days are getting longer instead of shorter?

Australia! Which is where sisters Elizabeth and Isabella, the creative minds behind Spell & The Gypsy, live.

Reading their blog is like living in an eternal summer.

Spell & The Gypsy chronicles the work, photo shoots and inspiration of the two Byron Bay-based artists, designers, and boutique-owners.

If you’re down under you can visit their Spell Boutique in person and if you’re elsewhere in the world, you can live vicariously through their beautiful blog. So make like a bourgeois bohemian and bookmark it already.

Bookmark | You are the River

In The Anthology’s Bookmark column we explore some of the most inspiring places on the wild, wild web.

This week’s spot goes to the LA-based blog You are the River, a beautifully curated site filled with all things creative, inspiring and design-y.

Especially home decor — think chic homes with white walls, rustic wood tables and lots of built-in bookshelves (my favourite kind).

Plus, beautiful graphic pieces.

And lifestyle-y things, like a mini review of San Francisco’s Plow restaurant.

So if you haven’t yet bookmarked You are the River, hop to it. And bookmark The Anthology while you’re at it.

When former Aritzia creative director Breanna Musgrove left Vancouver for the beaches of Mexico, she chronicled her adventures and creative pursuits on her blog Scout & Catalogue.

Now that she’s moved north once again, she catalogues the making of her textiles and accessories line (which goes by the same name) from her Toronto base.

Inspired by secret coves and all-day siestas, Scout & Catalogue’s aesthetic is a little beachy, a lot bohemian.

And I think you just might love it.

P.S. Is your bookmark bar in need of a little more love? Well, add The Anthology and then take a look at the firstsecond and reader-submitted third features in the series.

P.P.S. I’ll be on Breakfast Television Tuesday morning and I’ll be bringing an entourage of male models with me. (Only because I’ll be talking men’s fashion. I don’t always roll like that.)

Bookmark | Of Another Fashion

In The Anthology’s Bookmark column we explore some of the most inspiring corners of the internet. This week’s was submitted by Boston-based food blogger Camille of Broken Record (whose premise is “lousy photos, good food”). Take a look…

Of Another Fashion is this amazing project being done on the fashion histories of women of colour in the US (although there’s plenty of overseas stuff too – people’s photos of their moms before they immigrated, for instance),” she says. “It’s crowdsourced so people submit their own photos.  So it’s cool conceptually as well as having amazing content.”

Toyo Miyatake Studio Rafu Shimpo Collection

The site, curated by Minh-Ha T. Pham, an Assistant Professor in the History of Art & Visual Studies Department and the Asian American Studies Program at Cornell University, is full of gorgeous vintage shots from all over the world as well as the stories behind them. It’s well worth bookmarking.

The Impossible Cool curates photos of the coolest cats from the other side of the year 2000; designers, musicians, actors, and a few people I’ve never heard of but look so badass I wish I knew them.

It begs the question: were people way cooler back in the day or does everyone just look b-b-b-bad to the bone in black and white?

Either way, it’s vintage inspiration at its finest. And it definitely deserves a bookmark.

P.S. Add The Anthology on Facebook and you’ll be impossibly cool too.

For the inaugural post, it’s only fitting that we turn to Kelly Wearstler’s My Vibe My Life.

The interior designer turned designer designer balances over-the-top glamour with rock-and-roll cool so beautifully, I’m addicted to her aesthetic.
