Now that we know

wearing gold means winning gold, the pressure is on us to drape ourselves in the stuff.

gold-bracelet

Fake/real — I don’t think it makes a difference. If sequins can help, anything can. Which is why I’m wearing my ram bracelet (from BCBG) a lot.

gold-earrings

And why my officemate Sonja is wearing her gold earrings (which are actually from Tunisia) a lot. Mind you, she’s also wearing her Canada t-shirt, Canada sweatshirt, Canada vest, Canada lanyard, Canada backpack, Canada scarf, Canada toque, and Canada mittens.

Because every little bit helps.

If you took all the sequins

from all the costumes of all the figure skaters at the Olympics…

You would have this sweater.

And if you took all the light from all the torches that crossed this country in the relay, you’d end up with something that shines as brightly as the sweater does.

But the real reason I’m wearing it? It’s gold! Like the medals Canada is winning.

Because my theory is the more gold we wear, the more gold we win. Makes sense, right?

I am a Vancouverite

A born-and-raised, through-and-through, right-down-to-the-core Vancouverite.

But I’ve never been as Mountie-hugging, as maple leaf-waving, as red-wearing as I am now.

That’s what hosting the world does to you.

canada-pavillion

Spent the whole day playing tourist in Vancouver, posing in front of landmarks I drive by every day on the way to work.

And boy was it fun.

Because not only was it a sunny Olympic-hosting day, but it was also Chinese New Year.

new-year-dragon

Happy Year of the Tiger, friends! Gooooooo Canada!

Unreal fur

Get it? It’s fake!

unreal-fur-jacket

It’s also entirely unnecessary because even though the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games start today (OMG! OMG! OMG!) it’s pretty much spring in our beautiful city.

crocus-flower-bloom

See? This is what’s blooming in my front yard. It’s unreal.

So where were you when you heard Vancouver won the Games? Me? I was in my car on my way to the TV station newsroom where I was interning at the time. Had chills down my spine.

Run, Jessi, run!

What do you do when one of your very best friends is carrying the Olympic torch?

jessi-mtv-olympic-torch-relay

You run alongside cheering your heart out. Go! Jessi! Go!

torch-relay-banner

Had so much fun at the Olympic torch relay today — cheering as she carried the flame for 300 glorious metres.

Seemed like all of Vancouver was out to support. Cannot wait until the torch reaches downtown. It will be insanity.

How cute did she look in her white tracksuit?

canada-wear

What did we wear? Red…

And white. Naturally. Man, these games haven’t even started yet and already they’re making me more Canadian than I’ve ever been in my life.

Full-on fever

I’ve got the Olympics on the brain. It’s all I can think about.

red-jacket-vancouver-styl

Went to the dress rehearsal for the Opening Ceremonies last night and had goosebumps the whole time (I’m such a Canadian cheeseball).

blue-scarf

So in the spirit of the maple leaf I’m going to wear red. A lot.

vancouver-2010-red-mittens

And even though it’s warm and sunny, I’ll rock my 2010 mittens. You better believe I’ll be waving them proudly when one of my best friends (and your favourite MTV host) Jessi runs the Olympic torch this afternoon (so excited for you, Jess!).

Go! Canada! Go!
