It’s Eco Fashion Week in Vancouver. And I couldn’t go to the opening party at AVEDA without wearing something earth-friendly, could I?
So I chose vintage (surprise, surprise) and rocked it from head to mid-calf (my boots are new).
What does the week hold? A celebration of green (not granola) designers like Vancouver’s own Nicole Bridger (the above photo is from her Fall 09 collection).
And parties with some of my favourite Vancouver blogettes (like the blurry and beautiful Melissa, Chloe, Alicia, Nicole and Carolina above).
“And you can quote me on that,” said Michigan’s Tunde Olaniran after his show on Saturday.
Tunde opened for Vancouver’s Run with the Heard at the second annual Olio Festival. (His show was amazing, by the way. Next time he’s here, you want to be there.)
I went. I had a blast. Then I headed to Post Up, the latest show at Ayden Gallery, where I ogled paintings I would love to add to my living room wall. (See that gorgeous piece by William Chad Willsie? It would look amazing on this wall.)
Wore vintage suede shorts that look alarmingly like lederhosen (I am so ready for Oktoberfest).
And my walking boots, which look alarmingly like cowboy boots.
Post Up is at Ayden Gallery until October 17th (posters above by Colin Moore). It’s awesome. And you can quote me on that.

The second annual Olio festival is taking over downtown Vancouver this weekend (woohoo!), which means hundreds of emerging and established artists will be bringing their own breed of music, comedy, art, and film to a venue near you.
“It’s such a wonderful opportunity to see the work/love/passion of 500 relevant artists both local and international,” says Dani Vachon, Olio’s director and music curator. The four-day festival promises to be even bigger and better than last year’s with 40 events and 500 artists. This has got to change Vancouver’s reputation as “No Fun City”, doesn’t it?
“I think every festival, every artist, every comedian, every musician, and every fan is changing Vancouver’s cultural scene. In fact, your blog is changing the scene, too.”
Aw shucks.
So, of all the Olio artists in all the disciplines, which three are must sees?
“The Very Best (pictured above) is a very exciting cross between world and indie rock. I think the comedy show that’s partnered up with Global Comedy Fest at the Rickshaw Theatre will be good laughs. And I’m really excited to see what Tunde Olaniran (hip hop weirdo from Flint who is opening for Run With The Heard at Venue) will be like on stage,” says Dani.
Oh, and I’d personally like to see the documentary No Fun City. Just ’cause.
Time to break out the New Kids on the Block concert tee and hit the Olio circuit? I think so.
Of Vitamin V, Canada’s online magazine that delivers daily tips about the happenings in your city (V for Vancouver, M for Montreal, T for Toronto and so on).
To celebrate their best year yet, they threw a Back to School Bash at the Fairmont Pacific Rim‘s gorgeous Willowstream Spa.
There, we were manicured, massaged and martini-ed to our hearts content. (If you want to spoil yourself, I mean really, really spoil yourself, this is the place to do it.)
Wore my short-sleeved navy blue blazer over my long-sleeved electric blue blouse.
Which fulfilled my daily requirement of Vitamin V (this time the V stands for vintage).
P.S. You need some Vitamin TAF (The Anthology on Facebook) in your diet.
Because I love the sea. And everything to do with it — the salt, the surf, even the seaweed.
And when I can’t spend every day at the beach, I find little things of sea-themed beauty to help, um, tide me over. Like these handmade silver pendants from Vancouver’s Filou Designs. I met designer Fiona Louie at the One of a Kind Show media sneak peek (she’ll be showcasing her handiwork at the show in December).
And I could not take my eyes off her nautical-themed charm bracelet. It would look perfect with, oh I don’t know, something like this:
Not exactly pirate wear, but close enough.
