Yesterday marked the official launch party for Vitamin Daily Deals, which meant indulging in PinkBerry Frozen Yogurt, talking (bike) shop with the gentlemen behind the Flying Pigeon, and meeting people who turn out to be longstanding twitter friends of yours (I’m looking at you @djmorningstar). File it under funfunfun!
Summer means dresses. So I stopped by Banana Republic to talk to the Province’s Dana Gee about picking the perfect dress for your body type (hourglass, curvy, boyish, petite, pear-shaped, you name it). Take a look…

Eyebrow sculptors Bombay Brow Bar just opened a second location in Kits so The Anthology’s resident (and pregnant) beauty Kylie Kumar put her brows to the test.
Being six months pregnant there are a lot of things I can’t control: my waistline, my freakish hormone shifts, and my intense desire for Salt & Vinegar chips. That said, I can control my eyebrows.
I started my day with thin, unhappy brows.
But after my appointment, which included brow gossip (a consultation), a step-by-step plan, painless threading, eyebrow massage with rosewater gel and brow filling, I feel sophisticated and polished (even “glowing” if you will).
I’ll never let my brows be unhappy again.

Call it mellow.
Kid Cudi plays sit-outside-on-a-summer-evening kind of music. And there are few spots in the city better suited to do that than Deer Lake Park.
So in the um, pursuit of happiness, Vancouver-based photographer Braden Paul headed to the show to photograph Kid Cudi for The Anthology.
And his shots make me wish I were there.

It’s 8:00 am on Monday morning and Estée Lauder makeup artist Alan Pan has just flown into Vancouver from London. And I, well, I drove all of ten minutes to meet him downtown at the Metropolitan Hotel. But still, it’s early.
So naturally my first question for this makeup maverick is: what can I do to look bright-eyed and bushy tailed so early in the morning?
“Start with your skin,” says the energetic Pan. “We wake up looking dull, so skin is always the first priority.” He recommends Estée Lauder’s soon-to-be-released Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator because it reflects the light and “Instantly picks you up.”
“Then focus on definition – a good mascara, a touch of gloss for a radiant, illuminating effect,” Pan says.
“And avoid browns.” Wait, what? Brown has been my go-to eye colour for as long as I can remember. I’m not alone, apparently. “A lot of women choose browns because they’re warm, natural,” he says. “But skin looks dull first thing in the morning so you need a touch of colour.”
And if you’re applying makeup before you’ve had your double shot of espresso, Pan recommends starting with darker shades of shadow. “You’ll make fewer mistakes that way,” he says.
Turning to me with a tube of their upcoming Idealist Cooling Eye Illuminator in his hand, he asks “Can I attack you with this?” Well, when you put it like that…
“You’ll look like you’ve slept for 25 hours,” he says, as he pats the serum under my eyes and sweeps it over my lids. Its fancy patented tip actually does feel cool as a cucumber. And my eyes look brighter, a little sparklier, like I might actually be a morning person.
Travel writing is a tough gig.
I’m at RockWater Resort where I’m staying in an oceanfront tenthouse suite, eating five-course meals, getting seaside massages, and doing a little horseback riding hugging. All so I can report back to you, friends.

Used to look like these pants…
It was almost a shame to chop those up.
But I got over it fast.
Because I’ll be wearing these shorts all summer long. If we get a summer, that is. (Come on, Vancouver! It’s mid-June for crying out loud.)
So it turns out this experiment worked.
I mean, I can’t take all the credit for the Canucks’ latest win. (There were people who actually played the game and stuff.)
But still. I’m feeling the pressure to wear this vintage Canucks t-shirt until Vancouver’s favourite hockey team brings home the Stanley Cup.
Which might just be tonight.
Though I gotta admit — dogs playing football are endlessly entertaining.

Because even as Vancouver has been going absolutely totally completely off the wall for this team, I’ve been busy doing other things. Like laundry.
But after two dismal losses in the Stanley Cup Finals, I figured the Canucks could use all the support they can get. (Even !!! lead singer Nic Offer’s a fan, for Pete’s sake.)
And those of you from other parts of the world ask: Who are the Canucks?
I’m really not the right person to answer that. Something to do with hockey.
