My addiction to vintage

Cannot control myself when it comes to vintage pieces — especially handbags, skirts and jewelry. Picked up four dresses at Bohemia Gallery on Main Street in Vancouver and am getting them altered as I type. (Can’t sew my way out of a paper bag so I take my pieces to Susan’s Alterations, where my gal is always appalled by how short I want the hemline.)

Below are the “before” shots.

If you’re feeling very Martha Stewart-y you can make your own custom colours, but I got mine at Benjamin Moore.

The fruit bowl is from the Vancouver Art Gallery’s gift store, by the way. The teeth marks on it are from my cat Getty.

Wise words

Kyle, an expert on all things tasteful, directed me to the addictive site Quotes on Design. So far, his favourite is a Tibor Kalman snippet: When you make something no one hates, no one loves it.
My favourite is an Oscar Wilde gem: The ugly can be beautiful. The pretty, never.
What’s yours?

Am obsessed

Completely and totally obsessed with Jak and Jill. The photos on that blog are absolutely, hands down, out of this world spectacular. Case in point:

Leroy says hi

Meet Leroy, my ridiculous new puppy. His ma was a black lab, his pa was a king shepherd (which explains why this runt has paws the size of frying pans).
