Art & Design | Photography by Gray Malin

Buying art is hard. Not just because it’s often a serious investment, but also because it has to move you (and hopefully whoever you’re living with too).

These Italian beach prints by Gray Malin move me. Like in a take-me-to-Italy way.

I love a rocky cliff-covered coast line. I’d take that over a five mile stretch of unbroken white sand any day.

And it sure makes for some beautiful shots, like these from Malin’s La Dolce Vita series.

Which is a series I’d happily invest in.

Art & Design | Californian #squadgoals

joy-emily-nursery

While everyone and their grandmother is obsessed with Taylor Swift’s squad these days, I set my #squadgoals on a posse of LA-based designers, bloggers, photographers and creative types: Emily Henderson, Joy Cho, Bri Emery and Max Wanger. Their aesthetics are different (their talents are too) but there’s some serious cross-pollination happening in their bright and colourful, sunshine-infused looks. Which makes for some fun collaborations.

Is it the Southern Californian weather? Is it the LA creative community? Are they friends in real life? I don’t know.

But I do know that when you follow any one of their Pinterest posts to their blog, chances are there’s some sort of shoutout to one and other. All the sunshine and smiles make me want to add colour — and a bit of gold — to everything.

Style | Cozy for fall

The+Sahara+Edited+2+Cream

I live for oversized scarves. The bigger, the cozier, the better, as far as I’m concerned.  The Sahara Travel Wrap by Vancouver’s own Bare Knitwear certainly fits that bill. Made of melange alpaca and adorned with hand-knit tassels, it’s the kind of thing I’d wear straight through until March and then on every plane ride I take for the rest of my life.

Pinstagram | You Mumu Move Me

The Anthology’s Pinstagram column marries the dream (Pinterest) and the reality (Kelsey Dundon’s Instagram photos of places and faces in and around Vancouver).

KD and baby mumu

With child. There’s no maternity wear more amazing than a vintage mumu (thanks, Katie, for the photo!) + an embroidered toddler dress that would make for quite the mommy ‘n me look.

Grub

Graphic imagery. Wild new wallpaper at Grub on Main + the work of Roos van Dijk.

Necklace workspace

Workspace. A necklace I’m using in a Global segment I’m working on + a desk I’d be quite happy to work at.

Posters

Posted notice. An ad for what might be the most fun dance class ever + a work of art by Jenny Prinn.

Wo gold

Golden child. My kid’s hair matches the decor + a shirt that would camouflage right in.

Art & Design | Gig Posters by Catharsis

walkthemoon-orpheum15

I can’t remember the last show I went to (I’m pregnant, I have a toddler, I pass out at 9:30 every night).

But I don’t need to actually have attended any of these shows in order to appreciate the gig posters by Milwaukee-based design studio Catharsis.

stars-native

Medium poster-sized and $25USD a pop, they’re a bright, colourful way to capture a moment in time.

Even if you actually slept right through it.

Pinstagram | On the clock

The Anthology’s Pinstagram column marries the dream (Pinterest) and the reality (Kelsey Dundon’s Instagram photos of places and faces in and around Vancouver).

Global BTS

Lights! Colour! Action! Bright studio lights + bright gallery lights.

Pop of yellow

Pop of yellow. Sometimes you need a pop of sunshine + sometimes you match your decor.

Lots of colours

Workspace. My office is never tidy enough to shoot anything but a patch of floor + a corner of an art studio that looks suspiciously tidy.

Toddler breakfast

Somebunny loves them. Selling breakfast to a toddler + a kitchen that could sell anything to anyone.

Style | Natasha Goldenberg

Style, my friends, is Natasha Goldenberg.

11348177_936979953031753_1457315135_n

She rocks Prada like it were vintage. She always looks put together and a little undone, like only a European can.

10632477_392844990910688_1070945814_n

Is it the hair? The minimal makeup? The attitude?

11379205_1161320770544901_1162622_n

Or the fact that she’s always shot on a cobblestone street near a 100-year-old doorway, by the water with her daughter, or out at night with her glamourous friends?

11420963_1769017369991787_91417683_n

I don’t know, but she’s selling the European lifestyle like few can. And boy, am I buying it.

Bookmark | Design Crisis

In The Anthology’s Bookmark column we explore some of the most inspiring places on the wild, wild web.

erin-williamson-5

I don’t remember how I first stumbled across Erin Williamson’s blog Design Crisis (probably Pinterest. It’s usually Pinterest.) but I am so glad I did.

erin-williamson-design-crisis-49

It’s beautiful, quirky, inspiring and shows you all the guts, dyed fingers…

erin-williamson-orc-42

…and real-life mess that go into a design project. erin-williamson-21

Her finished products are always so bold, so full of personality, but they’re often  done economically with treasures hunted from vintage shops and eBay.There’s a whole lot of love that goes into the homes she works on. Including her own.

erin-williamson-1

She doesn’t post nearly often enough (but hey! Neither do I.) but Design Crisis is definitely worth bookmarking. And bookmark The Anthology while you’re at it.
