I have a closet full of vintage clothes and the “Made in Canada” labels on many of them speak to the country’s rich garment history. But I didn’t know much about Canada’s history of design design because we don’t celebrate it much (not very Canadian to do so, I suppose).
That changed when a friend loaned me his copy of Design in Canada, which is filled with iconic pieces (and the odd hilariously disco spread) from the north.
Many of them look timeless, some of them look so on-trend you’d expect to see them in modern decor stores, and none of them look anything like I expected vintage Canadian design would.

We have a vintage Snyder table we picked up when we first moved into our condo three years ago. The boy saw it and liked it instantly, and we had no idea what it was or its signficance in Canadian design history until the seller pointed it out to us. Now whenever I see the signature slanted legs I smile.

Hi, wanted to share another made in Canada, (BC) clothing enterprise that’s pretty unique in my small Village of Naramata…

Whoa, cool, Lisa! We had a table with similar legs and I’m now wondering if it might have also been a gem with some significance we never knew about!
Thanks, Elaine! Naramata is gorgeous and if I’m ever up that way I’ll check it out.
