No. Big. Deal.

I just made my own moccasins.

moccasin

Totally average weekend activity, right?

making-moccasin

You get together with your girlfriends, you drink mimosas on a sunny patio…

surina-sonja

And you make your own shoes.

Whatever.

It was all part of a workshop taught by the very patient, very talented Dan of Rickard Guy (who’s moving to New York soon, mes amis, so if you want in on the shoemaking action, make like a kangaroo and jump on it).

He walked us through, um, step by step — from picking our leather to threading our laces. Just look at that craftsmanship.

leroy

It floored Leroy, that’s for sure.

I haven’t actually taken them off since I made them.

red-shirt-detail

(Unless you count the Juvenile Diabetes walk, I rocked my runners for that.)

bracelets

Another thing I haven’t taken off?

My bangle, which made the journey all the way from India (thank you, Anji!).

No. Big. Deal.

P.S. I sew love it when you add me on Facebook.

What a great way to spend an afternoon! You’re so crafty hehe. Now, is there anyone who can teach you how to make your own Loubies?

Wow! I love moccasins. How long did it take you to make them?

No big deal?! This is big deal, at least to me. Pretty sure i wouldn’t be able to kick up something so awesome, like what you did.

Nice work Kelsey! One of the most pleasant after-effects of something like this moccasin workshop is probably telling admirers you made the mocs yourself and watching their jaws drop, yes?

I’m definitely going to make me some moccasins!

the jewellery is exquisite. Funny enough this weekend I saw a girl walk around in moccasins and wondered if she made them herself or not

  • Reply Colene June 14, 2010 at 11:41 pm

awesome! They look great. How much are the workshops?

Oh wow, nice job with those shoes! They really do look comfortable! How sturdy are they? (i.e. is the sole thick enough to walk around in all day?). Definitely impressed.
