Viva Mexico!

When we were in Mexico last week, we stayed at a resort in Playa del Carmen. Now don’t get me wrong, it was beautiful, but I love Mexico Mexico. valladolid-mexico

The part where pesos (not American dollars) are the most common form of currency.

Places like Cuernavaca, Mexico City and Valladolid, a town that is beyond picturesque.

We stopped at Valladolid — all too briefly — on our way back from Chichen Itza (whose pyramids, unfortunately, you can no longer climb).

We were there as the sun was setting so it was cool enough to walk around (temperatures hit a scorching 36 degrees earlier in the day).

It was all so beautiful it made me want to buy a hammock, learn Spanish, and move there.

Larissa — Haha! What were you hoping for? Crazy photos from the discotheque?

Don’t fret! I’ll post photos of the cenote, the beaches, and that amazing restaurant in Playa del Carmen soon.

Your photos are making miss the Mexico Mexico that my Mexican ex-boyfriend showed me. And Cuernavaca! I never had a chance to go, but my ex told me it was the preferred weekend getaway spot for chilangos (that’s slang for Mexico City residents).

You always post such great vacation photos! I agree, the best vacations are when you really dive into what it’s like to actually live in a place, instead of just visiting.

Janis – Can’t wait to hear how it goes! Where are you off to?

Lisa – I didn’t even know that. Would love to go back.

MizzJ – Thanks, lovely! There are plenty more vacation photos where these came from. I’ll post them soon.

Great photos! Gives you the other side of Mexico..which is more than just a Spring Break getaway. I’ve been to Cancun and we actually strayed away from party central and did awesome adventures like trekking through a rainforest and saw other hidden old Mayan pyramids & homes.

Liv — You’ve just got to head a bit inland, it’s much less resort-y there.

Melissa — Haha! Any time! Hope you had fun at your event!

Etrapar — And I’m now following you on Twitter too!

Teresa — All that exploring makes you feel a bit like Indiana Jones, doesn’t it?

Such a drag that you can no longer climb Chichen Itza! It’s fun and terrifying. …And you have to climb down like a crab, which is incredibly flattering.
Love Valladolid, too. Especially the little two-way lover’s benches in the central zocalo.

We have lived in Mexico for the last 11 years, here in Cabo San Lucas – never ever regretted the move, couldn’t be happier! No violence here, very laid back, beautiful beaches…. mmmm yes. :) Great post!

Hello I stumbled upon this article and found it flattering. I am Mexican and have lived in Mexico City all my life and let me tell you that, at least for me, its really nice to see that foreigners have that perception of my homeland.
Don’t stop visiting us. You are welcome here :)
