After five events (six if you count the Opening Ceremony dress rehearsal), two gold medal winnings, and far too many veggie dogs, my Olympic adventure is over.
My favourite experience of the entire 17 days? It wasn’t watching the torch relay, or playing tourist in the city I grew up in, or admiring the Norwegian curling team’s pants. It was short track speed skating.
Never have I cheered so much or so loud (I lost my voice for the entire weekend).
Because we saw Charles Hamelin win gold in the 500m.
And watched his team win gold in the relay. Can you imagine how that must feel?
Two gold medals (and a bronze) on home turf. That was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
And I need another fix of the Olympics. How am I supposed to cure SOW? London? Sochi?
Ha, SOW! I can see how there would be an adjustment period after that focussed intensity for two+ weeks is no longer.
I admit I didn’t watch much of the Olympics here in England, I saw bits and pieces as things were just so busy and I was away for part of it, but I was so proud last night when we won the gold in hockey. How fitting! I feel twinges of patriotism for home here and there but not like I did last night. GO CANADA!!!
definitely suffering from SOW….downtown felt like a ghost-town today.
Wow you’re so lucky you got to see those races!! It was such an awesomely sweet moment to see him win and then jump up into the stands to kiss his gf.
Denise — The Olympics made me feel more Canadian than ever too! So happy they made you feel so patriotic from all the way over in England!
MC — It does feel like the days after a really big party, doesn’t it? Can’t wait for the Paralympics to start.
MizzJ — That was the cutest moment of the entire Olympics, wasn’t it? Charles Hamelin is my hero.
I’m with you, darling!
so much SOW, but my liver and wallet thank me!
I couldn’t even comment yesterday SOW. But today is a new day. Reminiscing helps. I even went to line ups at the Bay yesterday to prolong the inevitable!
TGFTP2010 around the corner.
eeeeep! I am so jealous you were at those races. I was freaking out while watching them from the comfort of my own couch!!! The falling at the end and the WINNING!! SO intense!!
damn, cut off the fist pump!! haha…
best 17 days EVER!!!
P.S. last 2 comments are from G-sus!! Not Riss-mas!!
I imagine you hate me…I didn’t even watch the Olympics. In fact, I’m not sure if I ever have. Hope the SOW goes away soon, my love!! :)
soo fun! i’m glad Hamelin got his redemption b/c a lot of people were criticizing him earlier. I really miss seeing Brian Williams on TV. there’s something just so calming about him.
It was a nonstop party and now the town seems so quiet again.
