Too much sugary sweetness

can make you sick.

frilly-dress-and-boots

Which may just be why I tend to wear sweet frilly dresses with rugged, casual boots.

boots

They add a little edge to take the edge off.

frilly-blue-dress

 If that makes any sense.

bangles-bracelets

Wore them with bangles from all over the place (my mom found the black and white zig-zaggy one in Mexico years ago).

It’s sort of like my little Estelle Getty — she may look sweet as can be, but she’s one tough lady.

I’m obsessed with bangles right now. And those boots are exactly the kind that I want this fall. Unfortunately it’s impossible to find shoes/boots that fit my size 11 feet :( Will have to make a trip south.

I love your outfit….I pretty much love everything you wear!

I’m a big fan of black….or should I say black is a big fan of me, because no matter how hard I try to add color to my closet, black pieces just find me :)

I’m a big fan of the accessories to elevate or downplay looks right now! Bravo on the boots and the bangles. Boots and bangles– hey that sounds like a specialty boutique of some sort ;)

Hope you enjoyed your weekend, my dear!

Tales — Maybe try Nordstrom? They have the most amazing selection of shoes and would hopefully have them available in size 11.

Bruce — you’re so right. I can use my orange belt in karate to fight evil.

Liv — a bunch of silver bangles would be so gorgeous.

Lianna — thank you! I found the boots at Nordstrom in Seattle last year.

Jess — the writing on the mirror is actually a quote from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It says “I don’t think I’ve ever drunk champagne before breakfast before. With breakfast on several occasions but never before, before.”

Sofia — Getty says thank you.

Alinka — I’m so with you on black — it’s so classic, so easy to coordinate aaaaand it lets you focus on textures rather than colours and prints.

Dreamsequins — why don’t you open an NYC outlet of Boots and Bangles and I’ll open one in Vancouver. Sound good?

Very cute! I adore Audrey Hepburn. There is a giant print of her at Ikea that I want so badly. That mirror is fabulous.

i love everything about this, except the cat. sorry cat – not so into cats.

this dress is rad and the boots are too! the dress i wore to your wedding is kind of similar (post major hem job). boots could be my solution to the MAJOR hem job.

    BIG UP for The Anthology!!

I know exactly what you mean about counterbalancing the sweetness in an outfit. I’m drawn to ladylike, demure pieces and lace, ruffles, and bows, but I try to wear this stuff with streamlined pieces, or I’ll toughen up a girly sun dress with a studded belt. You’ve done a great job of it here with the boots and ruffled dress.

love the outfit! and those beautiful bangles!

Totally agree with that style philosophy. I think wearing something too matchy matchy makes an outfit look a bit boring, so I never combine girly with girly or edgy with edgy… looks a bit boring (like you walked out of an editorial). Love the boots and the dress (esp. the ruffles). Ooooh, and all your jewelry of course :)

  • Reply Nubiasnonsense September 1, 2009 at 3:25 pm

    Love the outfit,

BTW i tagged you with a lil award on my blog

  • Reply Kristin September 1, 2009 at 9:54 pm

That dress is killer and the boots are a perfect complement to it!

  • Reply VancityAllie September 3, 2009 at 4:10 pm

Gorgeous legs… If I had legs like you I would wear those boots too :)

I think you’ve gotten the perfect mix of sweet and sexy there!

    Where’d you get that dress?

By the way, if you opened a bangle shop in Vancouver. I would visit. Or at least have an online store ;)
